![]() Kenya National Parks and ReservesTHE MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE The Masai Mara located in the south east of Kenya, is the best known and most popular reserve of wildlife in Africa, opened in 1974, with the objective to protect wildlife from hunters, it is not a National Park, but rather National Reserve. Nowadays the park occupies an area of 320 square kilometre and is managed by the Masai tribe, who has choose to live in harmony with the wildlife grazing in the area, the Masai people also offer cultural tours which is a really enriching experience. Each year thousands of visitors come to watch this natural wonderland and the different wildlife species of animals including lions, elephants, cheetahs, buffaloes, leopards, hippos, black rhinos among many more (all of Africa's big game animals can be found in the park). Is a wonderful place for birdwatching too. the particular attraction of the Park has been the incredible migration in search of water of millions of wildebeest, gazelle and zebra, the herds move from Serengeti to Masai Mara in May or June, the return usually begins in the middle of October, Accompanying the herds are their natural predators: lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, crocodile. There are a larger number of lodges and campsites from stone built lodges to luxury tented camps, inside the reserve campsites include: Keekorok, Mara Serena, Mara Simba, Sarova Mara and Siana Springs tented camp, outside the reserve are Elephant Pepper, Mara Sopa, Royal Mara Safari Lodge and Sekenani camp.
