MALINDI MARINE NATIONAL PARK

Malindi National Park is all about the underwater world, it was established in 1968, together with the Watamu Marine National Park to conserve and maintain the corals reefs and the marine ecosystem. Malindi National Park was designated as a Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO in 1979.

Explore the park in a glass-bottomed boat is a wonderful experience; you can also enjoy the best snorkeling and scuba diving in Kenya. The park is covered with coral gardens, where can be seen different species of fish including Angelfish, Barracuda, Butterfly fish, Emperors, Groupers, Parrotfish, Rabbit fish, Sharks, Triggerfish among others.

GEDE RUINS

Gede was an ancient Arab town located off the Malindi-Mombasa Road along the road to Watamu; it dates back to the 13th century and was mysteriously abandoned in the early 17th C. In 1927, the Gede Ruins were declared a historic monument.

As a result of excavation and preservation work, large areas of this ancient town are now revealed. The Great Mosque, the Palace, pillar tombs, residential houses of a traditional Swahili pattern have been uncovered. A sophisticated water system is still visible on the site

It is now a National Museum, where ancient Arab, Ming Chinese and Phoenician porcelain, Spanish scissors and Swahili cultural artifacts are exhibited.

VASCO DA GAMA PILLAR

The pillar is situated on the beach in the middle of Malindi's long coastal front; it is one of the oldest remaining European monuments in Africa and was built in 1498 by the Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama to commemorate his visit to Malindi.
