AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

Formerly Maasai Amboseli Game Reserve is located at 260km from Nairobi, in Kajiado District , Rift Valley Province in Kenya, across the Kenya-Tanzania border, it was established as a reserve in 1968 and declared National Park in 1974.

Amboseli National Park/Reserve is the third most visited game park in Kenya after Masai Mara and Nankuru, the park is famous for its big game and its beauty landscape dominated by Mt. Kilimanjaro (which is the highest mountain in Africa with 5,985m).

Amboseli is home to more than 50 species of mammal including baboons, lions, leopard, cheetah, Buffalo, black rhino, wildebeest, hippo, gazelles and large herds of elephant and over 400 species of bird, specially near the lakes and swamps, some bird species include the Taita falcon, Yellow-throated, Taveta golden weaver, Superb starling, chestnut-bellied.

The inhabitants of the Park are mainly Maasai, they have been living there for over 400 years in harmony with nature. Amboseli is a spectacular place for bird-watching, camping, hiking, game-viewing, safaris and to learn more about the culture of the Maasai people

Amboseli is also one of the best places in Africa to see elephant, is home of the most studied elephants population in the world, which travel in large herds near Ekongo Narok Swamp. Nowadays, the Amboseli population of elephant, comprises approximately 2000 individuals in 54 families and over 211 independent adult bulls.

The best time to visit Amboseli is from June to October, there are a wide range of lodges and campsites inside and just outside the park boundaries.
