LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

Lake Nakuru National Park is located near Nakuru town in the Rift Valley Province in Central Kenya at 140km from Nairobi, the park covers an area of 188 km2. Was created in 1961 as a bird sanctuary and upgraded to National Park in 1968, was designated as a Ramsar site in 1990.

Lake Nakuru is an alkaline and shallow lake, this park shows one of the most fabulous bird sights in the world, is home of a large number offuchsia pink flamingos. Avocets, cormorants, ducks, pelicans, white winged black terns and more than four hundred species of birds have been sighted on the lake and in the surrounding parks.

Other attractions of the park are the Malaika (Angel in Swahili) waterfall, the unique Euphobia forest in Africa and view points such as Babooncliff, Enasoit Hill and Lion Hill.

The park serves as a sanctuary to protect the endangered Rothschild's giraffe and black rhinos, nowadays the park has more than 25 rhinos, Lake Nakuru is home also to waterbuck, leopards, impalas, warthog, dik-diks, hippo, ostrich, lion, and a large number of python snakes that inhabit the dense woodlands.

You can visit Lake Nakuro all year round, there are two lodges: the Backpacker's Camp Site and the Njoro Camp Site and several campsites along the park.
